Tauherenikau Racecourse - Some History
The Wairarapa Racing Club was officially formed on the 21st of April 1864 and after holding meetings in other parts of the Wairarapa for ten years, shifted to its current location at Tauherenikau in 1874.
The Tauherenikau site provides without doubt one of the most picturesque environments for a racing club in New Zealand. Substantial native bush and centuries-old trees surround the club's buildings and the racing is held with a backdrop of the magnificent Tararua ranges.
