Wayne R. HEath
Wayne R Heath’s has lived a star-studded country life. Incredible to call him our own, Wayne will be larger than life at our 2024 Tauherenikau Music in the County Festival.
As a youngster in Auckland he had regular spots at some of the city’s most sought after venues such as The Shiralee and played alongside the likes of Howard Morrison, John Rowles and Ray Columbus.
While living in the home of country music, Nashville, USA, Wayne hobnobbed with some of the biggest names in the industry. Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Willy Nelson and Keith Urban were all performing within the same circles.
“We met all those guys. Johnny Cash was quite a reserved, very refined and humble sort of fellow,” Heath said.
He also had a lot to do with Cash’s brother, Tommy, and Waylon Jennings’ brother, also called Tommy, with whom he set up music businesses together.
Heath and his wife returned to the Gold Coast in Australia in the 1980s where they set up night clubs and continued to work the Queensland performance circuit.
Now living in Masterton, Heath and his wife Marie have travelled around the world following their country music lifestyle. He is quick to acknowledge that his passion of business, family and community, away from his music life, have helped enormously, keeping his life and family on an even keel and in perspective, not just keeping music in the foreground.
He has put out several albums and continues to perform gigs with his signature country rock sound. He has been awarded for achievements including a “Silver Scroll”.
